TIFF Gallery: Canadian fashion on the red carpet

September 24, 2009

fm09FASHION

“Canadian-style promoters Gail McInnes and Amanda Brugel set up shop at the Hazelton Hotel during TIFF to outfit celebs in homegrown design. Their just-launched red-carpet rentals service, The Style Box, is aiming to get Canadian-made clothing and jewellery onto high-profile names going to high-profile events. At TIFF, their list of wins was long: Kristin Booth, Grace Park, Tara Spencer-Nairn and Ivana Santilli for starters.”

NOW Magazine: Thinking inside the style box

September 10, 2009

“The Toronto Fashion Incubator on the CNE grounds is miles away from the red carpets that roll out across downtown during every TIFF.

Leading up to this fest, though, it’s been a home away from the hoopla for the actors, TV personalities and socialites prepping to swan down those crimson swatches of broadloom.

This is where The Style Box, a celebrity dressing agency started by actor Amanda Brugel (who’s walked her fair share of red carpets for roles in Da Kink In My Hair and M.V.P.) and local fashion booster-about-town Gail McInnes, has set up a showroom. Its mandate? To help stars of every sort – they’ve already outfitted Smallville’s Charlotte Sullivan, singer Ivana Santilli and E! host Arisa Cox – see past the Chanels and Guccis and open their eyes to being dressed by Canadian designers.”

“The Style Box at the Smashbox Suite at Hazelton Hotel supplies celebs with outfits made by Canadian clothing and accessory designers like Jason Meyers, Nadya Toto, Magpie Designs, Coccolily, Pam Chorley from Fashion Crimes and Hillberg & Berk Jewellery.

Co-founders actress Amanda Brugel and stylist agent Gail McInnes operate it on a rental basis at the nominal cost of $50 for the entire ensemble, which just covers the dry cleaning.”

“While the Canadian fashion industry is bursting at the seams with talent, the rest of the world sometimes seems loathe to appreciate it. Enter Amanda Brugel and Gail McInnes, founders of the first ever showroom housing exclusively Canadian fashions – The Style Box . Fusing together their unique backgrounds – Amanda is an accomplished actor with credits that include CBC’s MVP and Paradise Falls, while Gail has over 12 years of experience managing and promoting Canada’s top fashion talent-there’s nobody who is better attune to the needs of each industry.”

National Post: Thinking Inside The Style Box

September 4, 2009

by Nathalie Atkinson

“Children are yelping amid the dizzying kaleidoscope of garish amusement park rides outside, but looking at Gail McInnes and Amanda Brugel, you’d never know it. The duo have set up offices at the Toronto Fashion Incubator, in the restored and renovated domed octagons of the CNE’s Music Building. Their business venture? The Style Box. It’s a fashion rental business – of sorts. The tag line is “promoting Canadian style culture,” with a straightforward mission: to simplify and formalize the process whereby Canadian stars, personalities and politicians connect with Canadian designers. Despite the carnival outside and TIFF barely a week away, the pair is the very picture of sang-froid, calmly perched for their portrait on the chrome and leather sofas of the TFI’s sleek new P&G Lounge. Hard to believe they’ve been madly fielding calls and fittings since they gave local publicists and stars a taste of The Style Box’s offerings at a Spoke Club runway show preview last month.”
